Filters Explained

The filters on this website are designed to make it easy to find a fixture that meets your specification requirements.

Some filters are “or” filters, meaning that the more options you select, the more results will turn up because they only need to match one of the selected options. Some filters are “and” filters, meaning that the more options you select the fewer results you will get because the results must meet every option. We quickly identify how a filter behaves below by the use of either a (+) symbol for an “or” filter that broadens your results or (-) symbol when an “and” filter narrows your results.

Filters can be broken into three separate areas of need – Fixture Specification, Fixture Compliance, and Sustainability Practices

Fixture Specification:

Category (+)

Fixtures are searchable by product category. You can widen your search by choosing a broader category (i.e. ceiling) or narrow your search by selecting a more specific category (i.e. linear). The more options you select in this filter, the more results you will get.

Finish (+)

Finishes have many different names, but they all fall into a broader category such as Gold, Silver, Bronze, Black, White, etc. To keep it simple, we have them grouped by these broad categories. If you are looking for an exact finish name, you can use the search bar in the website header.  The more options you select in this filter, the more results you will get.

Fixture Height (+)

This is the height of the fixture body, not the overall height (OAH). Overall height minimums and maximums can be found on the spec sheet. The more options you select in this filter, the more results you will get.

Fixture Width (+)

This is the width of the fixture body. In the case of a round fixture, it is also the diameter. For a linear fixture, it is the long edge of the fixture. The more options you select in this filter, the more results you will get.

Fixture Depth (+)

Not all fixtures will have a depth measurement. For the best results, you will usually want to leave this empty. In the case of a sconce, the depth is the extension off the wall. For a linear fixture, it is the short edge of the fixture.

Color Temperature CCT (+)

This is the correlated color temperature or color temp of the fixtures light source. Common CCTs are 2200k, 2700k, 3000k, 3500k, and warm dim. There are many other CCTs available. A fixture will only have the CCT listed if it is dedicated LED or if it ships with a lamp. Fixtures that take removeable lamps are noted as Lamp Dependent since you decide the CCT when you select a lamp. The more options you select in this filter, the more results you will get.

IP Rating (+)

This is the Ingress Protection rating for the fixture. You can learn more about IP Ratings in our glossary. Fixtures can be sorted by their IP rating or simply as Dry, Damp, or Wet. Not all fixtures have an exact IP rating. The more options you select in this filter, the more results you will get.

Brand (+)

If you are looking for a product by a specific brand, you can filter for that under the Brand option. The more options you select in this filter, the more results you will get.

Fixture Compliance:

UL, ETL or CSA Listed (-)

If your project requires certification (all commercial and hospitality projects located in US), enable this filter. UL, ETL and CSA are equivalent certifications from OSHA approved testing laboratories.

CE Mark (-)

When you are working on an international project, filter for CE Mark to find fixtures that can be wired for international electrical requirements and meet the CE Mark standard.

ADA Compliant (-)

This filter identifies fixtures that comply with the American with Disability Act. For sconces, this means less than 4” in depth from the wall.

Title 24 Compliant (-)

The California building code that applies to all commercial and hospitality construction projects located in California. This filter selects fixtures that are dedicated LED and Title 24 compliant.

Title 24 Lamp Dependent (-)

This filter selects fixtures that are Title 24 compliant when used with a Title 24 compliant lamp.

Title 20 Compliant (-)

The California energy code that applies to plug in fixtures. For dedicated LED plug-in fixtures it applies to the fixture itself. For removeable lamp fixtures they require a compliant lamp.

JA8 Certified (-)

A subset of Title 24 that applies to residential projects located in California. This filter selects fixtures that are dedicated LED and JA8 certified.

JA8 Lamp Dependent (-)

This filter selects fixtures that are JA8 certified when used with a JA8 certified lamp.

Dark Sky Approved (-)

For fixtures that are certified DarkSky Approved by DarkSky International to reduce nighttime light pollution.

Sustainability Practices:

Product Qualifies For (+)

Use this filter to locate products that can help you with points for LEED, WELL, and other project certifications.

Product Certifications (-)

This filter can help you find products that go above and beyond with their sustainability practices. Filter for RoHS compliant, Red List Free products and more.

AIA Impact Area (-)

This filter is where individual business practices are organized according to their alignment with the AIA Material Pledge Impact Areas. You can filter by Impact Area to see products that align with your project’s broader sustainability goals.
